The history of herbal skin care started thousands of years ago where people were more attuned and more dependent from the natural power of Mother Earth. It was the time when only natural products were accessible for anybody.

In our modern times, we experienced the coming of many man-made synthetic skin care formulations which compete aggressively and almost killed the herbal based products. It was just an unfortunately that a lot of these natural formulas where never formally recorded for posterity and were handed down by word of mouth only through many generations and so only a small number of these were preserved.

Maybe what contributed greatly to the almost demise of natural products is our fast paced lives and the convenience as well as availability with which we can acquire just about any synthetically made items.

Today, there is a growing interest back to the natural products. And so big skin care makers are taking advantage of this natural trend by blending herbal preparations with other man-made chemical preparations and preservatives. In the name of profit and greed, these corporations are now capitalizing on the very industry which they sought to destroy in the past.

It is then good to hear that there are still a few who remain true to themselves and who continue in the pursuit of making natural products. Though I am not personally seeing a revolt against the cheaper mass-produced herbal skin care products in the coming days, I am optimistic that consumers would see the real value of the products they are buying and using.

Let’s talk about natural ingredients here. When we talk on skin care, one natural ingredient stands out above and that is aloe vera. Aloe vera is an exceptional skin moisturizer and likewise good for treating sunburn, cuts and other skin problems. Other essential natural ingredients are dandelion, chamomile, lime flowers and rosemary which could act as cleansers and whose effects are maximized especially in the presence of other effective herbs.

You should be aware of the many herbal antiseptic qualities of herbs like lavender, marigold, thyme and fennel. The utilization of lavender water and rose water have been effective for skin toning even from the past. Products with extracts of tea have also been found to be very helpful in the treatment of UV radiation from the sun.

You may have come around with herbal oil extracts such as tea tree, primrose and lavender. These are the most popular and traditionally used for different purposes through the ages. Some skin conditions can also be alleviated using oils extracted from plants.

One of the main reasons for the resurgence of herbal popularity is that there are few if any side effects. Plus if you are creative and have time you can prepare your own formulations at home.

We have to take good care of our skin most especially using the healing power of the Earth as it is the primary barrier against the entry of many diseases into our bodies.

Beautiful Woman Beautiful Skin

When we speak of natural skin care, it refers to caring for the skin using the power of natural ingredients like fruits, herbs and even vegetables. As our skin is not synthetic, there is nothing man-made that could beat the desirable effects of natural beauty.

Most people lack knowledge on the skin type they have and as a result most are not fully aware of the right natural ingredients to be applied to enhance the beauty and radiance of the skin akin to those of movie stars. As the face is the primary thing we look at the person, it is imperative to take care of it well. With good skin, you can boost your self-confidence and physical image.

I am presenting here some natural ways of caring for your beloved skin. With a good desire for beautiful skin and some common sense, you can be on your way to that radiance in no time at all.

Idea 1: Adequate water intake and exercise routine are two bestfriends for your skin. With these two amazing factors going hand in hand, you are already half of your goal. Drinking adequate amount of water is very essential for skin’s health. The recommended allowance is around 8 full glasses a day but it should be higher during hot days or in summer. A regular exercise routine is also vital for overall and skin health. Personally, I am doing brisk walking for 1 hour for three to four times a week. With enough water and regular exercise, your skin will really glow!

Idea 2: Practice regular detoxification of your skin. This is just actually simple cleansing using natural ingredients which you can easily find in your kitchen or you may choose to purchase herb-based face and body wash. If you prefer fresh, you can use lemon or any citrus fruits blended with cereal or brown sugar for cleansing and exfoliation. Do the facial cleaning at least twice a day and the body cleansing at least 3 times per week.

Idea 3: Lemon and egg skin tightening. I am using this formula at least once a week most especially on a relaxing Sunday when I am free of any job or business pressures. In fact, I almost converted my house into a spa because of the many formulas and ingredients I am into. Aside from tightening, this natural formula also cleanses and protects the skin. And this is quite simple. Just beat one egg white until the whip becomes consistently up. Chill for around 30 minutes then applied into the skin including the face. Let stay for another 30 minutes.

Idea 4: Smooth radish feel. Another of my skin care favorite is radish. Buy one piece of radish and 3 spoons of vinegar together with 2 spoons lemon juice. Blend in some drops of honey and mix all the ingredients using sterilized water. Apply into the skin anytime you want to.

Idea 5: Eat balanced and healthy meals. Say no to greasy food as bad fats are enemies of your skin – most especially if you are blessed with oily skin. Focus your diet to fruits and vegetables as these foods are proven to very effective in fighting the free radicals which could damage your skin and make you look older than your real age. Also don’t forget to use sun protection sunscreen whenever you are out under the heat of the sun.

Idea 6: Wear a happy and positive disposition as much as possible. A person who is happy has an enhanced immune system which in turn encourages the skin to glow in radiant health.

I hope you learn something from this post. Let’s care for the largest organ of our body – the skin – the natural way!

Let’s Go Organic: The Best Skin Care Battlecry

National Organic Program

National Organic Program

As the consuming public is demanding for greener and safer alternatives to chemical and toxic laden products, the skin care industry is changed upside down or at least tilted towards natural and organic ingredients. And why it should not be? We should realize that we humans are part and parcel of nature so it just logical to use the power of nature even in our skin care practices. As the saying goes, “why go for artificial if there are natural ways to do it?”

Organic skin care is considered to be the best and most natural way of taking good care of our skin. In fact, there is no question that organic skin care was the first and the original way used by the ancient people in enhancing and keeping their skin young and supple. Using organic skin care has many benefits – it is nutrient-dense and as such very friendly to the skin and of course, preparing it at home will make it cheap. With its amazing antibacterial and antiseptic properties, organic skin care is effective in preventing and treating many skin disorders. Definitely, this is the way to go if you want healthy, clean, vibrant, flawless and young-looking skin all over.

When we talk organic, we refer to natural and fresh fruits and vegetables as these are mixed and formulated for external application. For instance, cucumber is very popular in organic skin care programs. Other natural produce like turmeric, apple, papaya, and ginger are also beneficial for the skin. Based on my personal experience, these organic substances have very stimulating and energizing dermal effects. As each person is unique and has different skin conditions and needs, it is recommended that you seek more information on your skin type and experiment with assorted natural materials that could produce the effects you long for. Just remember to always go for fresh and organically farmed fruits or vegetables for optimal benefits. And never use rotten ones just for the sake of saving cost – it is good for the waste bin but bad for your skin!

Milk is identified to have first-class cleansing properties and as if to acknowledge this fact, numerous skin care brands are tagging along the word “milk” in their packaging. You may combine oatmeal with milk for use as an amazing facial and body cleanser.

Ground oatmeal is particularly excellent for oily skins and is a fashionable element in any organic skin care procedure.  Other ingredients like egg, honey, milk and fruits can be easily mixed with it especially for those awesome facial packs.

Wheat germ is one more important ingredient. Because of its rich Vitamin E content, it is good for both exfoliation and keeping skin moisture. Wheat germ can also be mixed with other equally organic materials for facial masks – good for normal to dry skin. Oil can also be extracted from wheat germ.

Yogurt and sour cream are part of the organic club and is also utilized for their skin exfoliation and moisturising actions.

Organically produced honey is another very good ingredient as it facilitates the preservation of skin moisture and makes the skin glow in vibrancy.

As for toning the skin, we enlist the help of rose water as well as lavender water. After cleaning the skin, it is necessary for you to use toner to keep it tight and supple to touch.

We now see that if we are willing to go for organic skin care regimen, we have to mix and combine different organic ingredients having complimentary properties. As one of the law of nature, synergy could help us in getting that healthier and smoother skin.

Give your skin the wonderful treatment it deserves! Let us go organic!

Herbal Power: The New Name In Skin Care

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera

As predicted many years ago, the wellness revolution will catch fire and ultimately become a major business force. Buoyed by the consuming power of the baby boomers, products for health and beauty are promoted everywhere. I guess nobody wants to feel and look old. As for skin care, the trend is going to be the rediscovery of the natural and effective power of herbs.

Historically, herbs were part of the beauty regimen of famous personalities of the past. Remember the famous Cleopatra for this matter. With limited choices, people back then heavily rely on herbs to maintain beautiful and radiant skin. In our modern world, skin care is an evolutionary science and art. For the past decades, the old beauty recipes were trumped by synthetic and chemical skin care programs.

It was unfortunate that just in recent time, the natural herbal skin care formulations were almost forgotten or at least relegated to the background. The once popularity of synthetic skin care was puzzling to me then. Experts linked this to at least two important factors – first was the hectic lifestyle which left no room to prepare formulations and second was the heavily funded commercialization campaigns instigated by different companies.

I am then thankful that today, consumers are already tired of the toxins in the products they are using and that surely include skin care. However, I am still dismayed at the exploitation done by money-driven corporations as they position themselves to extract more profits from the natural trend we are in right now. Today, when a product describes itself as natural, there is really no 100% guarantee that is indeed true. Various skin care products are using chemical preservatives to prolong shelf-life. We all know that preservative chemicals are harsh to the skin and may cause long-term side-effects against our own health.

As I pointed in my other post here in the blog, the best solution is to formulate or create our own skin care regimen at home to ensure that we only use the most natural ingredients. Listed below are some of the most popular herbs having proven skin enhancing properties.

1. Aloe vera is one of the best as well as one of the most popular herbs for the skin. A freshly extracted aloe vera liquid is an effective natural skin hydrator which also good for soothing the skin. Traditionally, aloe vera is great for healing cuts and taking care of sun burns.

2. Herbs such as dandelion, chamomile, lime flowers and rosemary herbs are known to possess cleansing properties and are good for drawing impurities out of the skin pores. Combined with other herbs, these herbs could drive away toxins from our skin and even from our internal organs when taken either in tea or capsule forms.

3. Lavender, marigold, thyme and fennel are beneficial for the skin because of their amazing antiseptic qualities. Some of these herbs work also for skin toning and firming.

4. Tea has a very vital role in natural skin care regimen.  It is now known that tea extracts (like green tea) can be applied as treatment of a UV damaged skin.

5. Tea tree oil, lavender oil, borage oil and primrose oil formed as members of a group of herbs which offers good oils beneficial for the skin.

6. Fruits like banana, apple and melon are sources of fruit oils which could work wonders for the skin. In fact, you can find fruits oils in shower gels and even some lotions.

7. Homeopathic remedies and aromatherapies are also part of the natural skin care arsenals.

Herbal skin care is definitely one of the hot and in style trends these days. The rediscovery of the power of nature and beneficial properties of herbs will go on for many decades as people now are realizing that since we are part of nature and not synthetic then we should be in harmony with it and harness its potential for our common good.

Humans are natural! Therefore, let our skin experience the same!

Home-Made Beauty Recipes

Home-Made Beauty Recipes

Inspired by the effectiveness and power of nature, skin and hair care products are now sporting a new marketing message. Welcome to the natural club!  Since the industrial revolution, we have been victimizing our own bodies with toxic and hazardous chemicals – man-made chemicals that clog our pores and could cause diseases. If you are tired and sick of using toxic products, then let us go natural and organic as it is one of the biggest trends to ever hit the beauty industry.

Wherever you go shopping, stores and retailers are now pushing different brands and lines of natural-based cosmetics including skin care, hair care, facial care and make-up. As encouraging as this trend is, it is just unfortunate especially to an average consumers that in most cases the tag natural is now synonymous to being expensive. Though I believe that natural ingredients could be a little bit pricey, what I could not accept is the downright exploitation of this trend. As anybody could call his products as natural, there is no sure-fire mechanism that you get what you pay for.

So what is the solution? The answer is formulating our own beauty products at home. Don’t worry — based on my experience it is not that difficult at all. To guarantee that we get truly natural but inexpensive beauty products, we might as well make them ourselves.  I am sharing here some natural beauty recipes which can be quickly done anytime at home.

Beauty Recipes For Face

Start with this healthy tip: consuming whole foods like fruits and vegetables can supply your skin with nutrients for protection and rejuvenation. At the same, you can use these nutrients for external application.

Mixing crushed carrot, mashed avocado, and a beaten egg together with a few tablespoons of honey could be a great face mask as it supplies vitamins and minerals. The result is an improved tone and texture. Stir well, then apply, and let stay on your face for about 20 minutes, and then finally wash off with cool water.

After washing your face, you can apply shredded cucumber or as alternative you can use lemon juice to help in toning and firming the skin. This also closes the pores and eventually makes the skin looks great.

Beauty Recipes For The Hair

If you are spending money for high-end natural hair conditioner, here is a mixture that could save you money as well as effectively enhance your crowning glory.

This is just a very simple formula: mix egg yolk with a tablespoon of castor oil and apply to hair. Let stay on the hair for fifteen minutes and then rinse out. You may use as often as you want. The result is a healthy, vibrant and shiny hair. For additional natural enhancement for your hair, you can experiment adding eggs and other fresh herbs like aloe vera.

Beauty Recipes For Hand and Foot

It is now easy to have your own hand and foot cream using natural ingredients readily available in the grocery store. As your hands and feet require extra care, the nutrients from this formulation could greatly smoothen and boost these areas.

Make use of 1 cup of olive oil together with natural sea salt. To apply, just massage onto the hands and feet. Leave for around 10 minutes to let the nutrients enter the skin. Then rinse off the formula with warm water. You can expect a skin which is more alive and supple.

The natural trend is here to stay and is even expected to grow tremendously for the coming years. When consumers are discovering the power and the therapeutic properties of these ingredients from mother earth, there is no turning back.

Viva la natural!

Basic Nutrition for Glowingly Healthy Skin

Beautiful Glowing Skin

Beautiful Glowing Skin

As people are getting more and more specific and demanding on the way they look, the demand for health and beauty products surged. It can never be denied that millions are spending their money on products like age-defying creams, exfoliating lotions, natural vitamins for the skin and many more. As the beauty and wellness industry diversify, consumers may now opt to have surgical procedures or skin treatments using the latest technology in skin care. Well, all these things just showed how people are valuing their skin. As the largest organ of the body and the most visible part, there is no question that taking good care of it will have long-term and interdependent effects on a person’s overall health and well-being.

On the basic level, we must understand that to have a really healthy glowing skin is only possible with proper and balanced nutrition. As the saying goes, we are what we eat. And naturally, our skin do reflects what we take into our system internally. I am presenting here basic useful tips that could help defy our age. Practice these and put them into habit and you will reap the benefits your skin might be looking for.

1. The importance of hydration. We need water all over our body and our skin is no exemption. As a matter of fact, our skin is composed of 70% water. Nobody will question that water is the necessary blood of life. It hydrates our skin all over. On the other hand, dehydration causes unhealthy damage to the skin. So how important is water? Water is the one responsible in transporting all the nutrients and oxygen to all the cells of our body. It is not surprising then why we always hear people telling it over and over again that we have to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water or at least enough amount of water according to your needs and condition. The water content of your skin cells will tell you how moist or supple your skin can be. The most basic of skin care is really the prevention of dry skin. Having a dry skin can make you more prone from bad skin conditions like scaling, irritation and break-outs which we can actually avoid by following good healthy habits.

2. The role of antioxidants. Popular vitamins like A, C and E can be taken for their antioxidant effects. Antioxidants help protect skin from premature aging attributed to free radicals. Free radicals are formed from exposure to stress, first-hand and second-hand smoking or environmental pollution as well as inadequate nutrition. And all these unhealthy factors can wreak damages on our skin.

Getting right amount of Vitamin A can promote growth of healthy skin cells. So eat a lot of foods rich in Vitamin A. As a simple guide, look for the brightest and deepest red, orange and dark colored fruits and vegetables in the market – the darker they are the healthier they are for your skin and body.
Studies now confirmed of the role of Vitamin C in cell regeneration. It is not a wonder why a lot of beauty products are now incorporating Vitamin C into their formula. In its basest form, Vitamin C is an ascorbic acid found naturally and abundantly in most fruits and vegetables like papaya, guava, mangoes and oranges.

Known specifically as the beauty vitamin, Vitamin E is another antioxidant touted to have anti-inflammatory effects on the skin. It has the capacity to improve moisture, enhance smoothness and provide sun protection. Vitamin E can protect your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, prevent cell damage and helps in cell-to-cell communication effectively.
What are the things that could effectively accelerate skin damage? This is very simple question. Alcohol, smoking, inadequate sleep and excessive stress all can lead to skin damage. All these bad habits suffocate the skin and rob collagen resulting into the formation of wrinkles in the skin.

Getting a younger and healthy skin need not be expensive. You have the option to drench and load yourself with balanced diet of vegetables, fruits and vegetable oils. Be the envy of others by making your skin glowing and supple. Make the right decision to incorporate right nutrition to your life.

Your skin is your show window to the whole world!
